When it comes to physical appearance, I struggle with acne, I have a bump on the bridge of my nose that makes me loathe my side-profile, and there's a 4-inch-long scar across my chest that I spend far too much time and effort trying to hide. In a society that values and strives for visual perfection, simply existing as a young woman with personal insecurities is particularly challenging. But in the era of Women's Marches and campaigns like MeToo and TimesUp , as women continue to fight for their basic rights, struggling with low self-esteem is downright exhausting. This International Women's Day, while celebrating accomplishments and contributions of women, I wanted to work on practicing self-love, learning to accept my imperfections, and gaining more confidence. So when personal care brand Dove invited me and other members of the press to an hour-long self-esteem workshop for young girls, I jumped at the opportunity.
